Every January, while school is out, 30 teenagers (ages 12–15) from Rio’s favelas join our Serious Game Design Summer Camp. They design their own board and digital games, create avatars, learn to program and discover how to market their game to the world.
But for many of them, school lunch is the most nutritious meal of the day, and during the holidays it disappears. Some arrive at camp without breakfast. It’s hard to learn, create and grow when you’re hungry.
We are raising €4,000 to provide healthy meals for all 30 children and 15 staff members throughout the 12-day camp: a healthy breakfast with fresh fruit, a nutritious lunch with rice, beans, vegetables and protein, fresh water and healthy snacks, and simple lessons on healthy eating.
In PavĂŁo-PavĂŁozinho, Cantagalo and Tabajaras, we teach English with Positive Discipline, develop digital and creative skills through Serious Game Design, and prepare young people for work and entrepreneurship. Exceptional students can join our exchange programs abroad.
Each year we reach more than 210 children and young people. Former students come back as teachers, coordinators and role models. Luiz Augusto grew up in PavĂŁo-PavĂŁozinho and became the first Brazilian to receive a full scholarship to the University of Sydney, through the EduMais partnership. Change like this takes years, which is why steady support matters.
