EduMais and the number of Children keep growing! Lots has changed during the last six months for EduMais. Since the new year more projects opened up! What is EduMais offering to the children now, different than 6 months ago? We kicked off the year with more students in our English classes and more excursions for the children in the after-school program. While the projects from last year keep running and growing more projects were started. What is new? EduMais listened to the community and its needs before expanding the programs. With our new sports and entrepreneurship classes, we have created even more opportunities for the children to develop their talents and work towards their future within their own capabilities.
EduMais Education-Based Soccer Program We know that not all children learn the best in class. Another way to teach them the tools they need in the future is through sport. Due to the EduMais Soccer Program, more than 90 children are spending multiple evenings refining their soccer skills and techniques while also, most importantly, learning how to play together and to respect one another. The EduMais team is thrilled by this new program and the impact it is already having!
EduMais entrepreneurship program We are also aware of the fact that not all students feel prepared for the wider world when they finish school. On our entrepreneurship course, final-year students have the opportunity to develop entrepreneurial skills while improving their practical English vocabulary. By designing a business from start to finish, they are being equipped with tools to help them construct their futures. With the help of some inspiring guest speakers the course is buzzing with wonderful ideas. So wonderful, in fact, that we are even hoping some of their business plans will become a reality when they finish the course! As a result of the extra programs the children in the community are not only learning English but are also developing their physical capabilities and are getting ready for thenext step due to the entrepreneurship course. While we keep growing we are treated with the presents of success, the success that shows us the progression the EduMais children are making. With the Positive Discipline method implemented into every project, more and more children show improvement due to the approach. Children who did not want to join our class last year, who were seeking negative attention, are all of a sudden sitting down, smiling, and refusing to leave: “Teacher, I want to stay!” Volunteers who have returned are flabbergasted by the calm in the classes and the marked improvement in the behaviour of the students. This shows us that while we keep developing, the children and students do too and this is the most important thing for us. Iris Ferwerda - Volunteer EduMais
