A sunny welcome from Rio de Janeiro! This is the first Newsletter of EduMais. Many things happened since the start of EduMais in September 2016. In this newsletter we look back on the start and how more education can changes lives of children!
We hope you enjoy it!
Imagine just for a moment.....
a 12 year old child and there are days that he has to hide at home because the community has turned into a warzone. Gunfire, grenades and violence. This occurs on a daily basis but life doesn’t stop. Sadly, this is everyday reality for children living in the more than 1000 favelas (slums) in Rio de Janeiro. This results in living in a constant state of survival. On top of that children in public schools only have 3 hours school a day.
Imagine what the future of this child will be......
Changing the lives of 200 children
What is EduMais?
Diana Nijboer, founder of EduMais, fell in love with the vibrant, energetic, happy smiling and talented children but living in traumatic, violent, disruptive and dirty circumstances: “It was out of love and passion for these children´s talent, to create more learning opportunities for them: to develop their TALENTS and therefore a better future.” This is how EduMais was born.
Izabely´s mom on the impact of the English classes: "We are very happy with the English Classes of EduMais. Since she is in your program her English improved very much. Now she is tutoring other students at her school. She gained more confidence and responsibility."
Janelle looks back on 9 months volunteering at EduMais.
